New Record
Saw-whet Owls were on the move last night. In 16 years of fall owl banding at WPBO, never have so many saw-whets been recorded in one sitting. We banded 64 individuals and likely saw 8 to 10 that weren't captured. Add to that, 3 Long-eared Owls in the wee hours of the morning, you have one busy night. Spectacles like this are few and far between, but truly emphasize the importance of Whitefish Point as a refuge for migrant owls.
