Recaptures
Bad weather has kept the nets closed recently, but also given us a chance to catch up on data. With record numbers of Saw-whets this fall, it's no surprise we've had an unusual share of recaptures too. Sixteen previously banded Saw-whets have shown up so far. Seven were banded at WPBO in past seasons, and others hailed from Ontario, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
With the recent system of weather fronts passing through, it's beginning to feel like winter is just around the corner. Temperatures have been around freezing for a low at night and most of the fall colors are blowing in the wind. It's just about this time each year when hopes rise for the arrival of Great Gray, Boreal, and Northern Hawk Owls.

Congratulations on a great season. Hopefully the weather will give you guys some more good nights. Beautiful shot of the NSWO in the leaves.
