By The Numbers

Keith bitten by a Saw-whet Owl
Owls continue to funnel through Whitefish Point. Following our two big nights last week, we've continued to see good numbers of Saw-whets with a few larger owls in the mix. 282 Saw-whet, 6 Long-eared, and 5 Barred Owls have been banded so far. The Saw-whet count is much higher than average and we are fast approaching the project high of 324 in 2006. It's turning out to be a banner year for Saw-whet Owls at the Point and we've still got three weeks to go.
