| Wendy releases a Saw-whet Owl |
With mostly clear skies and light winds, Saw-whet Owls finally appeared in numbers this fall with 33 over the past two nights. One of them was previously banded at the point in May, and another was found in the net with a Black-capped Chickadee it had captured as prey. A Barred Owl was seen briefly on the 26th, and a white-tailed deer unfortunately crashed through one of our nets on the same night.
The presence of a Pine Marten a few nights ago, an uncommon mammal at the point, is a testament to successful reintroduction of a species once thought to be extinct in the State of Michigan.
The forecast seems ok for banding tonight, but the rest of the week looks a little iffy. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

Another Pine Marten! The cool stuff never shows up when I'm there. :-)
Don't give up Kyle! See you soon
