Luna Moth

Rosy Maple Moth
After 2 and a half nights of being closed due to high winds we were able to get a few hours in late last night. They only yielded two Saw-whets, but that's okay because things have been going well. Since May 15 we have banded 169 of the seasons 551 Saw-whets, and recaptured 12 more previously banded Saw-whets. Included in these recaptures was another one of our summer juveniles. We have two nights left in the season and it looks like they could be good ones. Early last night we threw out a white sheet and put up a black light to attract moths with good success. We found Polyphemus, Luna, Rosy-Maple, American Lappet, and several other beauties we haven't keyed out. The songbirds have been pretty quiet the last few days, but there was some nocturnal migrants last night, including the season's first Swainson's Thrush.
