Total owls banded March 15th-May 31st: 1192
Saw-whets: 998 (yes, we really tried for those last 2 birds, but had bad weather the last 2 nights)
Boreals: 63
Long-eareds: 110
Barreds: 16
Great-Horneds: 5 (this is the most ever captured in a spring season)
We also captured 35 owls that were already banded. Some were originally banded at WPBO, and others were banded elsewhere. One Saw-whet came to visit us all the way from PA!
Hope you enjoyed this season's blog. Please feel free to send us any comments you may have.
We will resume updating this blog starting July 1st...juvenile saw-whet owl summer season!
This is a Long-eared Owl with an interesting hairstyle...

I would like to thank all owl census takers. The information was interesting and encouraging to me that owls are holding their own in the Great North.
Cheers! Jim Meyer
